Medical Writing Superpowers

Within drug development, there are many documents that feed the lifecycle of a successful program. MWs are specialists who are needed to do a job that many can’t do and many more can’t do well. To be a strong MW is to provide value over the norm. In sports there is an analytic measure called VORP – value over replacement player. How can you show your value over other writers and editors?

Keeping in mind the following areas of focus can be a way to ensure that you are differentiating yourself and your work:

  • Efficiency –producing more content as smoothly as possible

  • Compliance –ensuring that all documents meet regulatory guidance and standards

  • Cooperation – working with and within the team to achieve a common goal

  • Accuracy - confirming that all outputs and deliverables are free from errors

  • Consistency – providing repeatable, functional authoring and delivering at a high level each time

  • Presentation – creating materials that look good, work well, and are stable and clean

  • Voice – sending the right message to the right audience

These are the MW superpowers. Possessing and leveraging these strengths will make you highly sought after and extremely valuable.
